More about The City of Osmio
The City of Osmio is the global source of governance for Authentiverse. It is a non-commercial, non-political, participatory municipality. Osmio provides that critical foundational element that’s been missing in the world of digital identities — duly constituted public authority. Without that, the door is wide open to bad actors who can hide behind false identities and do their work with no accountability. We see the result in the daily harvest of bad news.
Osmio inherited its duly constituted public authority from the World e-Trust Initiative of the ITU — a United Nations agency — when its Municipal Charter was written in Geneva, Switzerland, in 2005. (Osmio is not now affiliated with the ITU.)
Osmio’s form of governance is optimocracy by citizen
participation in volunteer commissions. Governance by
the governed: Humans in charge.
As the certification authority for Authentiverse, Osmio’s Vital
Records Department (VRD) manages the identity records of
individuals holding Osmio measurably reliable identity certificates. Other departments manage professional licensing, building codes for online spaces (digital “buildings”), privacy protection, court-ordered disclosures, and other functions of governance.
